No. 14 Maryland women’s basketball hosts Towson in home opener

After a challenging route trip at the Beach Chimera Showcase facing off against 2 ranked opponents, the No. 14 Terps (2-1) are set to make their habitation debut at Xfinity center Thursday evening at six:00 p.k. confronting Towson (2-0).

The Terps were an impressive 14-1 terminal season at dwelling house as their only loss came to the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks, 63-54.

In Estero, Florida, the Terps defeated Davidson 92-74 last Fri in the season opener earlier suffering their first loss to No. 21 Missouri State 81-72 on Sabbatum.

However, subsequently a quick turnaround the Terps came out with vengeance and unleashed a record-setting performance against the No. sixteen Arkansas Razorbacks as they scored  the near points confronting a ranked opponent in Big Ten history, winning 115-96.

Freshmen guard Angel Reese and graduate transfer, baby-sit Katie Benzan, earned their first honors from the Big 10 Conference Mon. Reese was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the calendar week with fellow five-star recruit Caitlin Clark a guard for Iowa. Meanwhile, Benzan was named to the Big Ten Actor of the calendar week Honor Whorl.

Inbound as a freshman with lofty expectations, Reese showed her various skill set on a national stage replicating much of the production caput coach Brenda Frese and the team witnessed in do.

During the Beach Chimera tournament, Reese averaged 17 points per game along with 8.7 rebounds. She also shot 56.3% from the field and finished with six blocks. As a upshot of her impressive performances, Reese was named to the Gulf Declension Showcase All-Tournament Team.

In add-on to Reese, Benzan showed off her scoring touch besides as she averaged 19 points per game and was named the Gulf Coast Showcase MVP. Benzan caught fire from beyond the arc, striking thirteen threes, while shooting l% from deep and 55% from the field.

As the Terps look to extend their winning streak to two games, Sabbatum's originally scheduled game against Coppin State at 1:00 p.k. has been cancelled due to a positive COVID-xix test amongst Coppin State personnel. In the meantime, the Terps are searching for a new opponent to potentially play on either Dec. half-dozen or Dec. 10.
